1. Agreed. You don't want to put in his head idea that you have faked before because now he may start to wonder if you ever fake with him, irrespective of what you might say. Compliments should be positive about him, as opposed to negative about someone else. Maybe be specific about something you like that he does. Taylor the compliment to him rather than be generic.
