5. To answer your question, “Do men keep a woman around just because?”, the answer is sadly, yes, more often than not. Something that's important to keep in mind is that if he truly, actually, genuinely wanted you, you wouldn't even be writing this post. I think you hit the nail on the head in that he's keeping you around as long as he can. I couldn't even begin to fathom “forgetting” about plans with my partner. If he wanted you, you would feel wanted, not just told that you're wanted.
