Humans are emotionally messy though – expecting the order of events to be: 1) Emotional outburst that is uncharacteristic 2) Apology and remorse and THEN 3) Calm and firm explanation of why you are upset is unrealistic. 2 & 3 are going to be muddled. Sometimes in that order, sometimes it will take 3 to happen before 2 happens. More often than not actually. It is hard for someone in an emotional state, who is confused about what has happened, to be able to apologize and show remorse if they don't understand what happened. At all points, maintaining patience (when 1) is wholly uncharacteristic) is going to be needed for the relationship to work.
