You are going to regret not living your life while you’re young. Religious or not you need to live YOUR life and not the life your PARENTS want for you. Your life is separate from their lives and you are strong enough and far old enough to make decisions yourself. As someone who never believed but was forced to and mentally left Catholicism at a young age I do not regret my decision to leave those cult-like teachings behind. Its not about imaginary internet points. Its mostly about engagement. Some people with trivial questions (or not even questions) get 1000s of upvotes and instantly land in “hot” or “top of x” categories because people relate to it. All that attention eventhough the simple and helpful response was given like 3 minutes after posting. Because its a simple question with barely any room for nuances or different opinions. Comments are just 10292 people confirming each other. On the other hand many posts and comments that ask/talk about much more complicated and nuanced topics get like 5 upvotes. These posts never get out of “new” and as far as I'm concerned most people sort by hot and other categories that show them more popular posts. So the question gets like 2 (probably not very nuanced) answers and 1 weirdo trying to sext and thats it. Barely anyone sorts by “controversial” because lets be honest, much of it is random spam/shitposting in most subreddits. I don't care about my or other peoples karma but this system makes it easy for valid and difficult questions to “get lost” and left behind. And behind (most) questions is a valid human being with a real life and feelings asking it for a reason. Especially on this subreddit very important and dangerous things like relationships, STIs and SA comes up. All things that can fuck up peoples lives without any help. By randomly downvoting any comment or post that “has a wrong tone” or whatever makes the chance that these people will get help smaller and smaller.

This happens to people raised with some of the messaging around sex that comes from religion. And I'm by no means attacking your faith. Your religion is your choice. Many religions promote ideas that sex is dirty and shameful. Even though you might not believe that intellectually, some of that messaging may have still burrowed its way down into your psyche due to how pervasive it can be. The fact is you were a normal horny teenage boy doing normal teenage experimentation. And fortunately you made it through without any life altering negative consequences. Those things are in the past and you can't undo them. You can be the person you really want to be going forward. If you're living the life that feels best to you under your faith and you shouldn't be psychologically attacking yourself for things you did in the past that you wouldn't do now. I don't think that's what God wants for you. Own your mistakes, learn from them, move on to be the person you want to be, and allow your conception of how to live your life to evolve as you grow.
