2. Okay… consider this. Cards on table, white guy, mid twenties, American, slight Christian background but rarely attended. Non-believer now. When I think about my future wife, I think about a women that I’ve met either online or in real life that we both expressed mutual interest in one another, and we continued to express mutual interest and further invest in the other person until one day we decide that this is what we want for life. Critical to that, is I will have already shared many intimate experiences so that I can better understand how well we would work together far down the road in much different circumstances. This is what dating is, and this is what is lacking from arranged marriages. You can claim that she isn’t being pressured, and I’m sure she isn’t specifically being told “you will marry this man or else” but do you think she is free from any pressures to follow through with this? Do you think the decision to marry you was hers and hers alone? I’ll respect anyone’s decision to have an arranged marriage but you have to acknowledge that the word ARRANGED necessitates that someone outside of the two parties in the marriage had some say in who they married. I’m sure there are plenty of arranged marriages that end up being moderately happy, but surely you can’t be that surprised that she isn’t throwing herself at you if she didn’t even choose you. Last thought…. What if she is gay?
